How to play Stalactites

Stalactites does not allow tableau-to-tableau building and starts every foundation with a random rank.

Goal of the game

Move all 52 cards onto the four seeded foundations by adding the next rank, with King followed by Ace.

Tableau building
Cards cannot be built from one tableau column onto another. Only exposed cards may leave a column.

Each of the 2 cells holds one exposed card.

An emptied tableau column cannot receive another card.
Moving sequences
Only one exposed card may move at a time.
Foundations
Four random seed cards start the foundations. Add the next rank to each pile, wrapping King back to Ace; suit does not matter.

Play the opening in this order

  1. Read the four foundation seed ranks and identify the next two ranks needed by each pile.
  2. Use the 2 cells only to uncover a useful card; keep at least one empty when possible.
  3. Cards cannot be built from one tableau column onto another. Only exposed cards may leave a column.
  4. An emptied tableau column cannot receive another card.
  5. Only one exposed card may move at a time.
  6. Keep feeding the next required rank to each foundation until all 52 cards are collected.

Tips for a better deal

  • Never empty a column just to make space; an empty column cannot be reused here.
  • Do not fill all 2 cells at once; an open cell increases the sequence length you can move.
  • Treat each column as a one-way queue: once its exposed card leaves, only the next card becomes available.
  • Send low cards to the foundations when safe, but do not bury a card still needed to build the tableau.

How is Stalactites different from classic FreeCell?

Stalactites starts four foundations with random ranks, builds them by the next rank regardless of suit (King wraps to Ace), forbids tableau building, and provides only two cells.

Can I move several cards at once?

Only one exposed card may move at a time.

What can enter an empty tableau column?

An emptied tableau column cannot receive another card.

Do foundation cards have to match suit?

No. Each pile accepts the next rank regardless of suit, and the sequence wraps from King back to Ace.

Is Stalactites suitable for beginners?
