Relaxed FreeCell

Relaxed FreeCell keeps the classic four free cells and alternating-color tableau rules, but correctly ordered sequences are not limited by the number of empty spaces. It is a lower-pressure way to learn FreeCell planning.

How to play

Build tableau cards downward in alternating colors, use the four free cells to temporarily hold cards, and move every suit to its foundation from Ace to King. Any correctly ordered sequence can move together. Undo, hints, new deals, and automatic completion are available.

Why this version is easier

Unlimited sequence moves reduce the risk of creating a correctly ordered stack that cannot be transported. You still need to plan carefully, but reorganizing the tableau and recovering from a mistake are easier than in classic FreeCell.

Relaxed FreeCell uses 52 face-up cards, 8 tableau columns, and 4 storage cells.

Play the opening in this order

  1. Scan the whole board for Aces, Twos, and the low cards buried deepest.
  2. Use the 4 cells only to uncover a useful card; keep at least one empty when possible.
  3. Build downward in alternating colors: for example, a black 9 may go on a red 10.
  4. Any single card or legal sequence may enter an empty column.
  5. Any correctly ordered sequence may move together, regardless of empty cells or columns.
  6. Release low cards first and complete all 4 foundations from Ace through King.

Tips for a better deal

  • Prefer moves that uncover a low card or create working space over moves that only tidy the top row.
  • Do not fill all 4 cells at once; an open cell increases the sequence length you can move.
  • Before creating an empty column, decide which blocked sequence it will help release.
  • Send low cards to the foundations when safe, but do not bury a card still needed to build the tableau.
