Spider Solitaire

Spider Solitaire uses two decks and ten tableau columns. Choose one suit for an approachable game, two suits for a medium challenge, or all four suits for classic expert play.

How to Play Spider Solitaire

  • Build tableau cards downward by rank. For example, move a 7 onto an 8.
  • You may move one card or a complete descending sequence of the same suit.
  • Any movable card or sequence may fill an empty column.
  • Click the stock to deal one face-up card onto every column. All ten columns must contain at least one card before a new row can be dealt.
  • A complete suited sequence from King down through Ace leaves the tableau automatically.
  • Complete all eight King-to-Ace sequences to win.

You can click a movable sequence to send it to a useful destination, or drag it to a specific column. The Hint button highlights a productive move without playing it for you.

A Practical Opening Plan

First, prefer moves that expose a face-down card. Join cards into longer descending runs, but avoid filling an empty column with a sequence that cannot soon be moved again. Before dealing another row, use any empty column to reorganize mixed fragments and reveal hidden cards.

Spider Solitaire FAQ

Why can I move some sequences but not others?

A group moves together only when every card is one rank lower than the card above it and all cards share the same suit. In the one-suit game, this means any uninterrupted descending run can move.

Why can I not deal another row?

Spider requires every tableau column to contain a card before you deal. Move a card or sequence into each empty column first.

Is one-suit Spider the easiest version?

Yes. One-suit Spider teaches the full layout and sequence rules with fewer suit restrictions. Two-suit and four-suit Spider require more careful same-suit planning.

How do I win?

Build and remove eight complete sequences, each ordered King, Queen, Jack, 10 down to Ace. When the eighth sequence is removed, the game is complete.
