Canfield Solitaire
Canfield Solitaire is a compact but demanding game with a thirteen-card reserve and a foundation starting rank chosen by the deal. It rewards careful use of the reserve and planning across sequences that wrap between King and Ace.
How to Play Canfield Solitaire
- Thirteen cards form the reserve; only its top card is available.
- Four face-up cards begin the tableau, one in each column.
- One card starts a foundation and sets the starting rank for all four foundations.
- Foundations build upward by suit and wrap after King. If the starting rank is 6, each foundation follows 6, 7, 8 … King, Ace … 5.
- Tableau columns build downward in alternating colors and may wrap from Ace to King.
- Correctly ordered face-up runs may move together.
- When a tableau column becomes empty, the top reserve card fills it automatically while the reserve lasts. Afterward, any legal card or run may fill an empty column.
- Draw three cards from the stock. When it empties, recycle the waste and continue.
- Complete all four thirteen-card foundations to win.
Click an available card to move it to a legal destination automatically, or drag an ordered tableau run. Double-click an exposed card to send it to its foundation.
Canfield Strategy
Free reserve cards whenever possible; the reserve controls how quickly empty columns become useful. Track the foundation starting rank carefully, especially when a sequence crosses King and Ace. Avoid covering a useful low card when it is needed to continue a foundation.
